Congrats to Matt for his award winning work! Our paper that details a more flexible 3D data / depth compression method won the Best Student Paper award from the 3D Measurement and Data Processing conference at IS&T’s International Symposium on Electronic Imaging, 2020.

Prof. Bell gave a talk, “Digitizing Our 3D World,” on November 12 at the Science Center of Iowa (SCI) in Des Moines, IA as part of their Café Scientifique series. The event was free and open to the public, taking place in SCI’s Star Theater planetarium.

Students in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, the Iowa 3D Club, and Prof. Tyler Bell’s Holo Reality Lab have partnered with the Science Center of Iowa (SCI) in Des Moines, Iowa to collaborate on an outreach project: a Large-Scale Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox.
Our pilot project, “EchoSee: an assistive technology platform for simulating human echolocation to assist those who are blind or severely visually impaired with safe and independent navigation,” has been funded from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Visual Loss (CPTVL).
